About Therapy

Do I have to book a session after the consultation?
No, there is no pressure at all! The therapeutic relationship is the most important and therefore, I often encourage clients to complete consultations with other therapists to assess who is the best fit for them. If you feel we are a good fit and would like to move forward in the process we can book our initial session during the consultation or you can check out my availability using Jane, the online booking app.
What should I expect in the first session?
The first session will be spent getting to know you as a whole person by exploring different parts of your life. We may touch on family and friends, school and/or work, relationships, and discussing how the presenting problem is impacting your life and clarifying goals. The session is focused on getting to know one another and beginning to develop our therapeutic relationship.
What is the cancellation policy?
With my limited availability, I’m no longer able to rebook cancelled sessions within the same week. As a result:
24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations.
All clients are offered one no-charge late cancellation, which you may use at your discretion.
If a session is cancelled within 24 hours and you choose not to use your no-charge cancellation, the first occurrence will be charged at 50% of the session fee.
Any subsequent late cancellations may be charged the full session fee unless you choose to use your no-charge option.
Late cancellation fees cannot be billed to insurance and will be charged to the credit card on file.
What are the office hours?
As of April 2026:
At this time, I will be offering sessions on a very limited basis:
Wednesdays: 5:00–8:00 PM
Alternating Fridays: 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Saturdays: 8:30–10:30 AM, 11:30 AM–1:30 PM, 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM
This will not be changing for the foreseeable future.
How often should I attend therapy?
There are many factors that go into this. In the ideal world, weekly to bi-weekly is recommended for the first several months to establish a therapeutic relationship and begin unpacking some of the challenges you're experiencing.
If this isn't an option, monthly sessions are still be beneficial, although; it may take longer to build a therapeutic relationship and our work may remain more surface level or focused on coping strategies. Ethically, I need to ensure that clients are not leaving my office in a state they can't cope with so therefore, I need to ensure that the work we are doing supports the client with what they need while also ensuring their emotional, mental, and physical safety.
I'm happy to discuss this further in a consultation to ensure you are supported in the best way possible!
What happens if you want a new therapist?
Changing therapists is common and okay, sometimes we go to someone for one thing but find we need a different therapist for something different. This may also happen if you feel we aren't a good fit or you aren't getting what you are looking for. If any of these happen, I'm happy to support you in finding a different therapist or we can engage in a conversation about ways I can better support your goals and needs.
What approaches are utilized in session?
For starters, I consider myself a person-centred therapist which means I display unconditional positive regard, genuineness, and empathetic understanding. In addition, I utilize an eclectic approach pulling from several different theories which include, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. All theories are used within an attachment and trauma-informed lens to support proper interventions.
