Trauma Therapy

Traumatic experiences change the way the brain perceives and responds to potential threat. It shifts the way we view ourselves and how we interact with the world around us.

Trauma presents itself in a myriad of ways with long-term impacts to your emotional, psychological and social well-being. Individuals with trauma are more vulnerable to mental health and relationship difficulties. Working with a trained mental health professional, individuals can find a trauma therapy approach that is tailored to their specific needs and can help them to heal from their trauma and improve their overall well-being.

Better Life Therapy uses a trauma-informed lens to support an integrative model. Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) supports clients in focusing on the internal "parts" they have, which can hold emotions, beliefs, and behaviors related to trauma. Through IFS, individuals can learn to understand and communicate with their internal parts in a way that can lead to healing and integration. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can also be helpful for trauma as it teaches individuals skills to manage intense emotions, regulate moods, and improve interpersonal relationships. Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between the body and the mind and helps individuals to identify and release trauma held in the body. By incorporating techniques such as breathwork, body movement, and mindfulness, somatic therapy can help individuals to heal from trauma in a holistic way.
